The story of Josie, a sick well off teen, Klara, her Artificial Friend, Rick, Josie's less fortunate neighbor, and their families attempting to make their way sometime in the future. I think I was supposed to find this to be a deep, meaningful look at universality of hope and friendship and the introduction of AI into our everyday lives. Instead I think a lot of the unexplained nuances (that I think are left vague for a reason - what exactly does lifted mean? What did Josie's sister Sal die of? How far in the future are we?) were supposed to be beautiful unknowns and instead I was annoyed or these details went right over my head.  I like Klara's narration and look at the world and admittedly was touched by the last chapter (when she is fading away! my heart!) but overall was kind of bored and meh the whole time.
