Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky
3.0

I feel really bad for giving it just three starts, because connecting the beautiful Russian Metro with the terrifying apocalyptic scenario seemed like a perfect fit.
The idea in itself is really great, but the realization of it - not so much.
In a way I believe that is due to the fact that it was firstly published online chapter by chapter, so that explains why it's so fragmented. Somehow I got the feeling the the main plot was also developed along the way, so it doesn't really have a smooth transition through chapters.
There is also a lot of characters mentioned in the book, but again they didn't all have the opportunity to develop and to end their story in a way that they deserved. The main idea of most of the characters mention was to show how people tried to make sense of the new world and all the horrors in it, but the author explains it randomly in the last chapter and somehow it didn't fit there.
Like I've said before, great idea, but as greatly written as it should have been.
