This book reads like a debut novel. A lot of the prose and dialogue use very common phrasing and metaphors that i personally think could have been delved into a little bit more. However, this is something I can easily look past.
Each character in this novel seems to have their own personal backstory, which adds a lot of depth to the world and the characters’ relationships. Though some of the dialogue between the Villain and the assistant was a little stiff, it felt realistic for their characters. Their relationship’s progression felt natural and well paced.
The plot twist in the third act caught me completely off guard, which is very unusual for me. It added a ton of layers to the rest of the plot that I’m still mentally unraveling.
I look forward to the next installment!
