This is fiction based on the true story of an IRA insider who became an informer for the British Secret Service during the Troubles in Northern Ireland after he was released from internment in Long Kesh. The Long Kesh segment was hard to read because of the horror of the conditions of the Republican (IRA) prisoners during the "blanket protests". Of course, these conditions were self-imposed as the Republican prisoners demanded to be categorized and treated as political prisoners, and refused to wear prison uniforms (this only blankets). The story of how Tyrone became an informer, and the consequences were the best aspects of the story. It wasn't quite 4 stars for me - really 3 1/2. Having said that, the second half of the book was definitely more engrossing.
