Providence by Caroline Kepnes
3.0

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed 'Providence'--a mashup of mystery (New England kid goes missing for five years and then is mysteriously transformed upon his return, a love story, a detective story, and often an homage to the writing of HP Lovecraft. At times the book reminded me of 'The Dead Zone' by Stephen King when it's focused on the love story of Jon and Chloe and then there's endearing detective character---Charles "Eggs" DeBenedictus suspects the heart attack deaths of many seemingly healthy young people must be the work of a serial killer. His investigation leads him into Jon and Chloe's stories.

I wasn't a huge fan of Kepnes's 'You' and the sequel--a few interesting characterizations, but minimal plotting and a general laziness to the overall structure made me a bit hesitant to dig into 'Providence' but I'm glad I did.
