Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

4.0

Emily St. John Mandel has a gift. This book is an unexpected and complex journey through time that, to me, highlights one of the simplest truths about humanity: we're all looking for meaning and love helps us find it.

Now I need to do some Googling to help wrap my brain around what I just read. The end exploded my mind.

I was remembering Cloud Cuckoo Land all through this - the multiple plotline/connected lives thing was very much like that. Of course it also put me in mind of Station Eleven. Very similar stylistic approach. I really enjoy Mandel's poetic prose and ponderous atmosphere.

Idid notice that of 9 romantic couplings in the book, 6 were non-hetero, which is neither here nor there, just an observation.

This novel was riveting and yet... calm? And surprisingly brief. A treat. I have no qualms about having paid full price for the hardcover. It's magical.
