Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard

5.0

I am the target audience for this book - I was a fan of Red Queen from the get go, also love LOTR but yearn for more from it, and have eagerly watched Victoria Aveyard's social media feeds for more information for months - and I was not disappointed.
The LOTR comparisons are there, and I really love them (Andry Trelland and his tea pot is the Samwise and his fry pans my heart didn't know it needed), but I also absolutely love how Aveyard made it her own, and I'm not just talking about the representation in it (
Spoiler When Erida was revealed to be a villain, even though I had a hint from her previous POV chapter when she's so hungry for conquest, it still had me jumping around on my couch reading
). The world building is a bit slow to unravel for me, and I'm not in love with some of the names (I want more about Spindles and am not a fan of the "Ward" as a name) but I'm here for it anyway. I would also really love to see novellas or a "history of the realms" companion book as well.
The first book still leaves a lot of open questions and room to be explored in the rest of the trilogy, but it also has a really satisfying ending that doesn't have me climbing the walls like Glass Sword did. If you're a fantasy fan, check it out.
Also, I am shipping a slow burn enemies to lovers between Sorasa and Dom and I will not be persuaded otherwise.
Probably a 4.5 for me in reality.
