An enjoyable read with a satisfying end, but I still feel conflicted. There were points towards the end especially where I wanted to just skip ahead because it got a bit repetitive. I have a hard time with thrillers that bring up neurodivergence and this is no exception. I don’t like how often they referred to the neurodivergent children as difficult. It’s like okay Avery has adhd but unrelated she’s also a sociopath, however these two are often conflated. Also, she’s being held as a 9 year old in a locked basement where a woman plans to murder her!!! It doesn’t matter that it was her idea to run away, as an adult Marion should’ve said no. It’s still kidnapping!!!!! Idk it kinda pissed me off.
Moderate: Death, Blood, Kidnapping, and Murder
