Although well written, the main topic was singular and disturbing. This is the story of an older man who, whilst travelling, sees a young boy with his family and stalks him until the point of deciding he is in love with him, then leaving Venice.
As this story was described in The Magician by Colm Toibin, it is inspired by true events. It is the voyeurism, description of the lengths he goes to to stalk the child and of how “beautiful” he is most concerning. Also, there is no other point to the story, there is no other plot, merely a description of a man’s secret infatuation.
