Super interesting historical narrative from perspectives that were not on my radar at all. This is definitely an epic that spans generations, but I was expecting the characters to have more depth. In an interview, the author stated that she does the heavy research first, then builds the characters based on real people from interviews, so I understand why the characters feel so flat sometimes. I lost steam about halfway through, because while it was interesting, I wasn't super emotionally invested, but I'm glad I finished.
