Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber

4.5 ⭐️

stephanie garber, the woman that you are.
the fact i've already started reading tbona and couldn't even wait to write this before tells you everything you need to know.

i'm gonna start with the only slightly "negative" thing i have to say (and the only reason why it's a 4.5 and not a 5 star book): i wish that, between the beginning and the middle of the book, we had gotten more world-building and, in consequence, i feel like that portion of the book could've been 3x longer. but maybe i was just missing the world-building and descriptions of caraval.
HOWEVER, i finished the second half of the book in like 3 hours. literally could not put it down. and that's when i started falling completely in love with the story and the plot and now i'm so unbelievably invested, it's all i've been thinking about.

i feel like i'm still right at the beginning of everything and i CANNOT wait to see how this all unfolds and where the plot will take me because THANK FUCK i've managed to avoid most big spoilers (let's hope i didn't just jinx it)
