The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski

4.0

This book started off a little slow, but it built itself up quick enough and made up for its pervious slow beginnings.

I love how it made me feel irriated when people would repetitively says "it is as it is". It made me curious about why this world is as it is. I enjoyed that immersion and it left me curious and wanting more.

I had most trouble trying to imagine this world, to me how it was described wasn't done very well, at times I would imagine and create an image but then something would contradict that image. Mainly the description of the Ward where the half-kith (lower class) lived. The rest of the island I had somewhat of an idea what was going on.

The ending leaves me for wanting more. Some things I saw kinda coming throughout the book but I didn't expect what had happened in the last few chapters of this book. And I liked that twist.

There are a lot of questions unanswered, but I would think we will see them in the next book.

A wouldn't want to compare this book to the Red Queen by Aveyard. But this is a better written story that has similar ideas. The romance isn't heavy and isn't the main plot line. But it's a turn pager.

You have a girl that lives in the lower end of society, who has accepted the world she lives in until she mets a stranger who plants a seed of light (metaphorically speaking). Girl goes on a journey to discover why everything "is as it is" and learns of her new powers.
