The Virgin Way: Everything I Know About Leadership
by Richard Branson
What struck me about the book is how cool and funny Richard Branson's personality is. It's refreshing to meet his relaxed down-to-earth normal character against a backdrop of more quirky and edgy biographies of leaders. He starts off the book reflecting on his own background and how it helped shape him, clearly a mark of someone who understands the role of luck. There's in fact a chapter on luck, but points out that people get extremely lucky sometimes, yet sometimes it can require preparation. He quotes "luck is when opportunity meets preparation". If you are looking for a more biographical take, this is not it. The focus of the book is solely leadership and business, and provides interesting stories from the Virgin empire and other companies.
