Normal People by Sally Rooney tells the story of Connell, a popular and well liked boy who lives with his single Mother Lorraine, and Marianne, who is intelligent yet a loner at school and lives with solicitor Mother Denise and older brother Alan.
Their on-off relationship starts whilst in school in small town in Western Ireland, which continues as they go to University in Dublin. It is an interesting character driven story of a friendship with benefits between two people who cannot seem to stay together yet are lost when they are apart. I was a little disappointed with the ending, which was just left hanging!
