Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

2.0

It was intriguing, the he said/she said back-and forth perspectives. I stuck with it just to see what happened--I credit the author for successfully building suspense. But the faults, in my opinion, were many--the writing seemed schmaltzy, precocious and self-conscious. The characters were wholly unlikable--all of them. And most of the plot was so overwrought and implausible that by the end I was thinking, "yeah, right...enough already." I just wanted it to end--and it did, and the end was as mortifying as I had expected.
