Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik
3.75
I wasn't sure where the sequel to His Majesty's Dragon would take us, but I wasn't worried either. Naomi Novik has proven to me at this point she can do whatever she likes and I'll like it in turn. That remains true here.
In many ways Throne of Jade feels like the first in a two-part story. I'm not sure if that's the case, necessarily, having not read the third installment, but I feel like there's more here.
I liked the first book slightly more than this one, but there was definitely a lot here to love. I am really excited for when Temeraire and Laurence finally get back to England; Laurence's growth in terms of authority and Love of Country has been really interesting to watch, and I want to see him and Temeraire go up against the establishment. I hope there's a good chunk of that in the books to come.
