Honestly, every time I started reading the book again I felt dread. This book has too much going on for it to make meaningful commentary on anything. Mental illness (which borderline felt ableist), physical illness, mother-daughter relationships, father-daughter relationships, witches??, and romantic relationships are all discussed in this book.

The author did this odd thing where she made you HATE Hanna, and then kind of feel bad for her, and then hate her again. And Suzette - is she evil, or driven to insanity? Alex - just stupid lol.

I think the combination of mental illness and mother-daughter relationships made the commentary on the later irrelevant, and I found the book to be a let down.

It gets two stars because the descriptions made my face a permanent frowning face, which I do think is good in a “horror” book.
