The Other Side of Night by Adam Hamdy
4.0

Just finished this book and I really don’t know what to say. It starts as a police procedural- Harri finds a disturbing message in a used book and thinks a woman is in danger. As a former officer - she was released from her duties after a suspect she chased was killed - she starts to investigate. She reflects on a man she met thru online dating, Ben, and their first date when they realized they were soul mates. On the third date he breaks up with her leaving in a suspended state of mourning.

The search for the last person who had the book leads her to Ben and it’s complicated but he alludes to a “secret.” It’s only in the last 75 pages or so when time travel comes into play and I think I have reading whiplash from the abrupt introduction.

A small globe with stars brings on the “secret” and this is where it lost me. I love a time travel story but the truly sudden introduction of fantasy was annoying. Maybe if it was a time traveling mailbox instead of a paperweight? Ha.

A lot is explained in a very short time and the ending felt rushed and forced. I am still confused as to what time lines led to each vignette. That’s probably not even worded correctly because I’m really not sure what happened in the last 50 pages. I cannot *not* recommend nor can I wholeheartedly recommend this book - my mind is on a tilt-a-whirl.
