Then She Was Gone
by Lisa Jewell
Very simple writing style. But it sort of sneaks up on you, gets under your skin and leaves you reading and reading and reading. Very interesting story. I liked the use of different point of views. I usually don’t, but I think this worked because it focused mainly on Laurel, with only a few snippets of the others to keep the tension of the story moving. Very sad. But I enjoyed it, I love a book that keeps me hooked. Some strange choices in the narration kept this from being a five star read. Nothing major, but just made it feel more like a tropey, stereotypical novel.
Also, I mean, very predictable story, I think. I had a sense of what was gonna happen pretty early on and it did, but for some reason I just kept reading on hoping against hope. I think it’s fairly impressive when a book still manages to keep a hold of you though, even though you guessed what will happen.
