Not what I was expecting, having seen the musical adaptation. I felt it went on far longer than it needed to and I found myself losing interest. The political and moral situations in the book are very well thought out and true to life, but Elphaba is a much less sympathetic character than I expected. I couldn't see myself reading the next one.
I'm surprised that the musical adaptation improved the story and pulled things together better for a more satisfying ending.
