Overall, the concept of the story is very interesting. A twinge of magical realism with a semi-dark academia flair at the end that does pull you in for book two.
The process of getting the reader up to speed on all of the character info was messy in a not so fun way. It felt jumpy and hard to keep track of as the main story continued.
The book didn’t really hit its stride until 80% for me and I didn’t find myself getting lost.
