Mansfield Park
by Jane Austen
I was at pains to latch on to any of the characters in this novel of Jane Austen’s, until the arrival of Susan, who piqued my interest and left me wanting a sequel to learn more about the life of someone who seemed more honest and lively than anyone else in the book. Austen’s observations are as keen as usual compared to other titles I have read but the tone is rather acidic. And then the ending seemed to tidy up problems too neatly. So not my favourite of the six but enough flavour for me to appreciate the accomplishment.
