Into Darkness We Fall by Jodie King

Poorly written.
The grammatical mistakes were distracting at first, but then the syntax really wasn’t much better. First, in one of the early scenes, the FMC uses the term “pussyhole” to describe her vagine and I thought “this has to be written by a man” because no woman would use the word pusshyhole.  She used the word “savaging” about three times almost back to back.  She used “fuck” as a filler word. I like profanity in my books, but it was used so frequently it felt unbelievably.
However, the thing really cemented my decision to DNF was how I felt the author TELLS us everything instead of being descriptive and painting a picture. Lots of “I sentences.” “I felt…” “I did…” “I was…” It all felt very surface level.
The character development feels rushed or lacking somehow. The FMC is your stereotypical sad girl who is actually super hot. The MMCs are super rich stereotypical bad boys/rapper/MMA fighter/Russian Bratva. The FMC’s best friend is the stereotypical bright bubbly girl who will inevitably bring her out of her shell by force if she has to. It was really hard to connect with the characters at all.
Overall, just felt flat, lacking details and I became disinterested pretty quickly.
