I put this book down several times because I found it so gross and I felt sick. It was little things like that that bothered me. God.
Perry Dawsey is an ex footballer due to a crippling injury and works in an IT company thanks to his friend Bill. He beat the shit out of his old boss. He is still famous in this novel, people shuddering when they remember him playing football. His fearsome visage is partly thanks to his abusive father and docile mother and this plays quite a big part in the story.
I found myself hoping I could just read it faster to try and get a single glimpse of what was actually coming. I got there in the end. The book sets up the sequel really well ans gives you enough information in this first book to start understanding what is happening.
I would compare this book to Ring, by Koji Suzuki. And definitely recommend reading this if you enjoyed Ring. There is no romance which is kind of nice.
