Rounding up because this was the first sports novel I have read where the characters actually feel like professional athletes. Keeley did her homework to create a story that felt realistic enough but added some of that sapphic romance whimsy.
The perspective is in first person with only one narrator. Usually, with this perspective, we follow a chaotic or problematic character and the love interest is usually perfect and happy to be completely devout to our MC after the first meet-cute. But not in this book! Instead, we follow the "boring" character that is pretty well settled in their life with a little drama. They are not without their flaws, but we aren't jumping into the mind of a hot mess that is somehow a professional tennis player.
The romance was respectful and Keeley ensured that we saw the characters as equals. There was also some trans rep and BIPOC rep in the side characters. However, the biggest positive was honest and open communication. The big conversations that needed to happen came up at times when it felt relevant to the story which was refreshing.
Would highly recommend if you like some sport with your contemporary romance.
