Play Along
by Liz Tomforde
God I love this book. 4.80/ 5. It’s a close second to The Right Move bc I still love Indy’s spunk a tad more. I just love Liz Tomforde she knows how to make a perfect bf. She also keeps the other characters from this series so naturally intertwined I love it, especially seeing Max talking, he was so cute. I don’t get why Kennedy didn’t want to tell anyone she’s a doctor tho tbh. But I feel like you really see character growth, and u see her start to feel happy and love him, while you see him start showing his bad days to her instead of pretending everything fine. The love around this whole friend group is so heartwarming, and I love Isaiah’s devoted obsession with Kenny from the beginning. He immediately knew she was sent from his mom in heaven and held onto that and he was right. Also was spicyyy. Would so read again. This book just had me cheesing and laughing. Close 2nd fave in the series for me.
Spoiler summary:
Isaiah has been obsessed with the physical trainer ever since she made him smile on the anniversary of his mom passing. She was engaged but then wasn’t so he knew it was go time. They run into each other in Vegas and drunkenly get married. They stay married so that she doesn’t get fired. She’s trying to get a doctor job in California since the team doctor is sexist to her. She ends up seeing another side to Isaiah and asks him to help her get comfy with touch since she wasn’t shown love growing up. He does this but she starts falling for him too. He tells her he loves her but still encourages her to get the job cuz he wants her to have a choice and not feel trapped. She gets it but parented she doesn’t since she turned it down to stay in Chicago, while he was talking about being traded just to try and end up in California with her. The new owner of the Chicago team is a woman, so the team files complaints on Kenny’s behalf to fire the sexist doctor, so she ends up getting to become the 1st female doctor for anyways and they both get to stay. They move in together and get remarried.
Book 3 foreshadows:
Hinting towards his brother Isaiah possibly having a book - he’s been in love and obsessed with their physical trainer for three years:
“She’s in love with me. She has absolutely no idea, but she is. And clearly, I’m in love with her.”
I like Isaiah‘s obsession with Kennedy: “Fine.” My brother punctuates the word. “But I’m making you breakfast in the morning, and you’re going to like it. How do you like your eggs?”
“Poached. Soft.”
“Wonderful,” he deadpans. “I guess I’ll go watch some YouTube videos on how to do that because I have no fucking clue how to poach an egg, but I can promise you, they’re going to be perfect. So, good luck not falling in love with me tomorrow, Kennedy Kay!”
Isaiah and Kennedy: “Isaiah won’t stop texting me about whether he should change his walk-out song and then proceeds to ask me what my favorite song is, you know, in case he wants to use it. ”
We find out Isaiah and Kennedy accidentally got married in Vegas blacked out: “Mistake seems harsh,” he counters. “I like the term, ‘happy accident’.”
“Is that what Kennedy is calling it?”
“Oh, no. She definitely called it a mistake.”
OKAY NOW THE ACTUAL BOOK:
(3 years ago) He sees her for the first time on the anniversary of his mom’s death
He’s literally hiding in the woman’s bathroom cuz he accidentally eavesdropped
