Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh

3.0

Getting into the second book of the Boys of Tommes series after feeling a bit let down by the first one, I was hoping for something to shake things up a bit.
This book cranks it up a few notches compared to its predecessor. Gone are the days of dragging plotlines; instead, we get hit with twists and turns that kept me on my toes. Sure, there were still some slow parts, but overall, it felt way more interesting. One thing that's pretty obvious is that these characters are teenagers through and through. Their actions, their drama, it all screams adolescence. Some might find it annoying, but I kinda liked the authenticity it brought to the table. I actually cared about how this one was going to end. Unlike the first book where I was just waiting for it to be over, Keeping 13 had me genuinely curious about what was about happen next.
Now, about those explicit scenes... Yeah, they're there. Not really my thing, but hey, it's easy enough to skip over them without missing much of the story. Just a heads-up for anyone who's not into that kind of stuff. This book may not be perfect, but it's a definite improvement over the first one. With more drama, less redundancy, and a storyline that kept me hooked, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here, although I think I might actually skip the next two parts and jump right into Gibsie and Claire's story when it comes out in April.
