Heir of Broken Fate by Mads Rafferty
3.0
2.5 stars.
First of all, I really liked Knox as a character, but he was pretty much another carbon copy of Rhysand. Right along with his court which were basically the inner circle. Idk maybe I'm just over the ACOTAR inspired characters...
The only other thing I liked about this book was the premise, but one plot quickly changed into another and the original was seemingly abandoned.
Delilah is a princess who is abused by her father, the king, until one day he kills an entire sector of 11k people and she decides she's had enough. After randomly receiving a necklace from her delirious mother she begins to see Fae who went missing 150 years prior, so along with her best friend she sets off to find out why Fae are hidden from humans.
She meets Knox, a Fae king and immediately hates him because all kings must be terrible. Next thing she's completely forgotten that her goal was to save the humans and is caught up saving the fae from the entrapment spell. (oh yeah she's a Fae now too...)
The romance goes from I hate you, to slow burn, to let's shove as many spicy scenes into the last 15% of the book as possible... and then have the evil Fae who started the spell show up for half a page and bam problems solved...
Mermaids show up in the last 2 pages to tell her the problems aren't over... duh...am I the only one who didn't forget about the humans being murdered?
Apart from the problems with the plot there were pacing issues and grammar problems that completely took me out of the book.
I can't say I'm looking forward to book 2, but I'll probably still read it.
