The Raven King
by Maggie Stiefvater
Wow, Maggie Stiefvater, you are a master craftsmen. When it comes to young adult books, the most I hope for is a good storyline with good character development. It's not often you get a series with amazing craft. I believe, the level of intricacy and craft of a book is what makes it great. The Raven Cycle has excellent craft. Maggie has created a fantasy world within a real one.
For starts, every character is crafted perfectly. Everything down to the way they talk symbolizes something. The relationships are just beautiful. The whole crafting of Henrietta is just spectacular. I could seriously go all day just on how amazing the setting is. The storyline is so raw and human, but strangely magical at the same time. There is a character for EVERYONE to relate to. They 4 are so different and so beautifully flawed. Especially Adam, who has to be one of the greatest developed characters ever.
I will say this, this is not the easiest series to understand and get through. It is very wordy and descriptive, and the storyline can be slow at times. So if your into the fast paced books, I wouldn't recommend these.
The only criticism I have is that I don't feel like the story is over. What happens to the Gray Man? What is Ronan going to dream next? I hope Maggie comes out with more books! A truly brilliant series that is HIGHLY recommended for committed readers
