Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo

4.0

July 2012 RS book group

The characters were well-written though both Lucy’s mother and his girlfriend/wife are essentially the same. Of course Lucy and his father and son are similarly the same. Is this done to indicate how much temperament runs in families, or out of laziness in writing?

It look a little while to get into the groove of reading this one, but once I got it, it was smooth sailing and I wanted to keep reading. Some of the ending is rote and also out of place (did Russo need to introduce Kayla in order to wrap it up? I don’t think so...

But as an overall read, it was a good novel. It has it all: love, loss, regrets.
