The Nerdy and the Dirty by B.T. Gottfred
5.0

A Heartfelt Real Romance!

Benedict Pendleton is a nerd. At least that’s who he thinks he is. Penelope Lupo is a freak. At least that’s who she thinks she is. Until one fateful day Ben and Pen each make separate resolutions to change who they are. Penelope feels like she is a freak, but on the surface everyone around her sees a sexy and popular girl, but Pen is not so sure she wants to be that anymore. So on the day Benedict decides he will no longer live life as a nerd, and will begin talking to girls in an effort become less “socially awkward” and maybe even get a girlfriend, Penelope decides she will no longer be invisible.
Penelope has made the decision to speak her mind and be honest about her feelings about well…everything! How does Benedict factor into all of this you might ask? Well, when Benedict has a moment of unfiltered honesty that gets him into trouble, Penelope comes to his aid, and decides she likes Benedict because he just doesn’t seem to care about speaking his mind. Then she starts to realize she may not just want to be like Benedict, she may want to be with Benedict!
At the risk of spoiling this delightful story, I’m not going to tell you anymore. I just want to say you need to go pick this book up ASAP! This is the first novel I have read by B.T. Gottfred, and it will definitely not be the last. His writing is amazing. This book truly made me feel so many things! It made me laugh out loud, cry, hurt, and heal all in one. And even though Benedict is a guy, I completely understood his feelings about love and his fears of being rejected for his direct nature dealing with people. B.T. perfectly captured the awkwardness of first love between two people who don’t feel deserving of it (even though they are), the pain of loss, and the joy of discovering who you are, and having the courage to be yourself.
