I think this was probably the most horrifying and haunting book I’ve read. The writing is perfect and so so sad, capturing the pain and trauma of the characters with perfection. It took a long time to finish because certain parts of the book are just so grim that it required an effort just to get through, but I really would say this book is essential reading in understanding the horrific effects and consequences of slavery.
