Carpe Corpus by Rachel Caine

5.0

Starting off, a few months after Lord of Misrule, it is clear to see that there has been a lot of changes to the town of Morganville. Mr. Bishop has really set his claws into the town and things are not looking pretty.

On starting this book I was so worried for Claire and her friends. They all seemed separated and detached from one another, not only physically but also emotionally. The tension throughout the book was kept tight and I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat as I read.

Michael surprised me a lot during the book. He has always been the strong, steady, silent type. always dependable and solid as a rock. It was clear throughout this book, that sometimes he despised just how calm and rational he was. I got the impression that Micheal sometimes wishes he was more like Shane, who acted out his emotions, rather then rationally thought things through.

Myrnin was a character who constantly surprises and fascinates me. He is so unpredictable and yet, to me, that makes him all the more fun to read about. Throughout the series he has slowly become one of my favourite characters, reminding me of an old eccentric uncle. You never know, just quite what he is thinking and yet, dangerous or not, you just have to find out.

The relationship between Clare and Shane, like always, had me swooning. This is one character pairing I am so happy about (although I still wouldn’t mind Shane for myself). I have been enjoying the pace in which their relationship has grown. I find it hasn’t been rushed or dragged out in a long and angst ridden period of time.

Rachel Caine’s ability to write a paranormal series, that is filled with many realistic human qualities, is simply incredible. I love how easy it is to relate to the characters and their emotional issues. From Claire’s hears and insecurities, to Eve’s sassy-ness, I really feel connected to the characters within this book.

Finally I was so excited to read a cute short story at the end of my edition of this book. It was a cute little novella based around Shane. It was great to see things from his point of view, even if it was just for a cute short story. If you haven’t see it, you should defiantly try and get your hands on it.

5 out of 5 for Carpe Corpus. The 6th book in the Morganville series, but without a doubt, just as great as book 1!
