This was beautifully written. I felt like a visitor in the town because the author writes such amazing details and makes you feel like you know everything and everyone. I did feel like skipping some because there was too much detail at some points. 

There were a lot of characters to keep track of and I found myself not knowing who some people were at first throughout the story. 

I felt like the author knew a lot about midwifery and the time period. It was an interesting read
