I really like Mark Greaney. He has done good work with Tom Clancy's books and the first Gray Man book was very well done. But this book was kind of a mess.
The Gray Man, aka Court Gentry, is working as an assassin for the Russian Mafia. He's on the run from the CIA and US Special Forces. He gets an assignment for the Russians, tasked with assassinating the president of Sudan. His former American teammates find out about it, and recruit him to double-cross his Russian minders and extradite the president instead.
As soon as Court gets to Africa, things go to hell. His flight gets diverted, and he rescues a damsel in distress. His mission(s) with the president prove trickier than expected, and take up most of the book. The action drags on for quite a while. The Americans that Court works with get kind of annoying. Things get a little better at the end, but not enough to redeem the story. I'll read the next Gray Man book to see if this was just a bad apple.
