An Exaltation of Larks Suanne Laqueur
5 stars

This is my first time reading a book by Suanne Laqueur … and I must say, it's amazing beyond words!! I'm not even sure where to begin with this book review. The way she writes , is simply beautiful! She is captivating and gets your attention from the start!! You must read this book NOW! I can't not do it justice by just writing a simple review. Do yourself a favor and add it to your Christmas list ASAP !
This story weaves two different cultures and countries together , from Chile to Manhattan. There's so much depth and emotion in this book. After I finished reading , I just sat there and thought ,”Wow!” Total book hangover right now.
Alex is taken to the States from Chile, when his country falls into military coup.He is alone in the world and all he can think about is his missing parents . Will he ever see them again?? He is taken in by the American family, the Larks. Alex doesn't know one single word of English. But the family is patient and helps him every step of the way.
Javier is a top paid male escort. He is home one day on 9/11 and witnesses New York falls to terrorism. He unexpectedly gets guardianship of his nephew after the attack. He has to change his ways and open his heart to his nephew. He has never been in love nor ever received loved in return. This is all foreign to him!!
Valerie Lark takes a liking to Alex from the get go. Their bond was immediate. Over the years … their bond and connection, only gets stronger.
Alex, Javier and Valerie… their lives are intertwined in their 20’s and again in their 40’s. They each have a deep and rich connection to one another in their own way. Life has a way of putting people in your life the right exact moment you need them! They each need one another at some point during their lives. Their connection and friendships are strong, throughout the years... even during headache and loss. Their love, compassion and friendship always wavers through.
I don't want to give any spoilers, but good grief… this book is just too good to pass up! You must put it on your to be read list as soon as possible!!
Excellent Job, Suanne Laqueur! I now must go buy and read the rest of your other books!! I can't wait to read more from you!!
