Poyums by Len Pennie

I really enjoyed this collection of poetry- it spans a range of topics, most prominently women’s rights, but is easily accessible and moving to someone who’s not read a whole lot of poetry. The most unique part of this book is that there are poems in both English and Scots. The poems in Scots were harder to understand, but once I’d read them in my head with a Scottish accent enough times, I was able to start to understand and relate to them. Poetry is one of those art forms which cannot always
be done justice on a page, and my next step is to see if I can find videos of the author reciting some of her own poetry to see if it changes my initial interpretation.
