Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts by Rebecca Hall

challenging dark emotional informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

The illustrations blew me away at every turn!! They were part of the narrative in a way I’ve never seen before. I’ve read plenty of graphic novels that would be just the same without illustrations, but Wake integrates picture and story so seamlessly that it would be impossible to separate them. The narrative itself is a work of wonder: creative, imaginative, and raw.
