Infected by Scott Sigler
5.0

I never quite got around to finishing Scott Sigler's "Infected" trilogy, so before diving into "Pandemic" I thought I would reread the first two books in the series. In "Infected" a malevolent force is sprinkling Michigan with microscopic seeds that, if given the chance to take root in a human host metamorphose into a horrific new organism. "Scary" Perry Dawsey becomes such a host. The book bounces between his struggles with the "Triangles" and the efforts of a government task force to identify the strange threat that is causing seemingly random people to become homicidal maniacs. It's a really strong sci-fi novel with just enough gore to satisfy horror fans. What's more, having read much more of Sigler's work today than I had when this book first came out in 2008, there's a cameo at the end that glossed right past me the first time, but this time stopped me in my tracks.
