The Last Charm by Nikki Moore, Ella Allbright

2.0

I said on Twitter that I would give this book one star if a plot thing happened and it happened. but it feels mean to follow through with that especially as this book is clearly meant to be tragedy porn.

It never made me cry so it does fail at that, so the two stars are earned. Even taking into account that the Protagonist might be hard on herself (serious I can't remember her name. My brain deleted it immediately) I don't like her and therefore I don't care what happens to her or this boy who needs therapy so he can get over his trauma bond.

I think the biggest problem is we don't spend much time with the characters being together. It's all about the bracelet which might have worked as an idea but the way its executed means we don't see the actual relationships. Just the things surrounding it. Also, things being hidden, so they could be revealed later, providing nothing.

So full spoiler time
So I was gonna give this book 1 star if Jake died, and he did...on her birthday. Two characters died on her birthday. I know someone who did have their grandparent die on a significant birthday, but god, really.

Also if a complete stranger, sent me 380 pages to prove that she was the owner of a bracelet instead of a brief description of each charm like I asked for, no I would not be meeting her at a random beach. I get she griefing but what would that letter actually read like.
