Jedi Search
by Kevin J. Anderson
I started reading this trilogy back in...high school?...and somehow started in the second book. So, the combination of coming into the middle of the books, having not finished the Thrawn Trilogy and not being used to Kevin J. Anderson's style of writing soured me on Star Wars novels for a while. I decided to go back and read this so I'd have a better understanding of the Expanded Universe and specifically what took place between the Timothy Zahn novels I've also been reading and liking more. I also wanted to try and give Mr. Anderson a fair shake, which I probably didn't the first time around. And...we'll see about the other books but I still don't like his writing style, the overly dark tone or his read on the characters. I don't expect all authors to have the same interpretation of the main SW protagonists, but this seemed such a departure from Zahn's and from the original films it made it difficult to enjoy as much. I will say that he's much easier to follow than Zahn, who is often preoccupied with complicated mental and strategic chess game plots and military maneuvers.
