This was a sweet book, and in the beginning I really enjoyed it. As it went on, it became repetitive, and it became more about bragging about how much better they were than experienced hikers, and how the fans of Atticus that they met on the mountain, diminished his joy of hiking.

This book chronicles the adventures of a writer living in a small town in New England and his dog. We learn about his life, his work, his finding of Atticus and how they got started hiking. I expected a sweet story that wouldn't stress me out (Since there was a dog on the cover, I did appropriate googling to find out whether or not I would be devastated or not before even cracking open the cover).

If this book had been shorter, and had some of the fat cut out, I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more. It is still a nice read though.
