jaynekayleigh 's review for:
The Burnout
by Sophie Kinsella
thank you so much to netgalley and random house publishing group for providing me an eARC in exchange for an honest review!!
——⭐️⭐️⭐️——
sasha is done. she cannot answer another email on time, participate in the joyfulness program, and wants to join a nunnery.
but… when sasha hits a wall (literally and metaphorically), her family forces her to take a break in the same place she used to frequent as a child.
at the seaside resort, she comes to find out that the hotel is in shambles and that she has to share the beach with another fellow burn-out; finn.
mysterious messages that seem to be addressed to her and finn begin to appear on the beach. the two are now forced to talk and theorize about who could possibly be leaving these messages. they ask questions and learn about each other— all whilst ignoring the questions concerning the growing energy between them.
trigger warnings:
-n/a (correct me if i’m wrong)
what i liked:
-sasha is so relatable and real
-the setting
-the real conflicts of the story
-hilarious
-a sweet old surfer man
what i didn’t like:
-the pacing was inconsistent, at times it was too fast, then it was too slow
-too slow toward the end
-felt like there was too much filler
tropes/representation:
-grumpy x grumpy
this book was okay. it was enjoyable enough, but the pacing was annoying at times. when i was approved for this eARC, i looked into the author and holy crap. she’s written SO MUCH. props to you girl. thanks to netgalley and random house for the eARC!
