It took me an entire month but I finally finished this book! It's definitely heavy in places and there were a ton of characters to keep up with. At times I would get lost in the weaving of stories but the last 4 hours I could not stop listening. And I was pleased how many of the villains in this story met their end. I'm only giving it 4/5 stars just because it took so long for me to get into the story after reading much faster paced novels. I would still recommend it if you have got some time to sit with its material and reflect on how the far America has not come on the last 100 years. Plus there are a few lighthearted moments that made me chuckle even with all the very realistic pieces of this fiction.
Graphic: Racial slurs, Racism, Antisemitism, Religious bigotry, and Colonisation
Moderate: Bullying and Sexual violence
Minor: Pedophilia, Forced institutionalization, Grief, Death of parent, and Gaslighting
