The Tiger's Wife
by Téa Obreht
This beautiful book reads as an epic oral history finally written down, like a long visit with a dying elder who wants to tell as much of their story as possible before passing. As such, the book does jump around a lot and keeps the reader on her toes, ever thinking and connecting the puzzle pieces; it is definitely not light or mindless reading. The characters are rich and haunting, the lines between life and death blurred, and the aspects if "opposing" belief systems tangled. Both humorous and heartbreaking at turns, if you are ready to dig deep, this is definitely a worthwhile read.
