I enjoy Julie Klassen’s interest in history, and her integration of historic fact with fiction. This book was a light read to fill the space between more dense titles in my shelf. It was, though, rather predictable and held some extremely similar storylines to those in Poldark. I found myself constantly comparing to Poldark. Similarity doesn’t bother me, I choose a lot of books because I enjoy different perspectives of similar historic moments, places, people, etc. But some of the scenes in this book felt like retellings of Poldark scenes made to fit this story. It’s not one I’ll find a permanent spot for.
