All the Flowers in Paris
by Sarah Jio
dark
emotional
medium-paced
Celine is a young widow living in Nazi-occupied Paris with her father, the local florist, and her daughter, Cosi. German officers discover their Jewish heritage while attempting to escape the city, they are caught and Celine is forced into captivity. In present day Paris, Caroline is in a tragic accident that causes her to wake up in a hospital with absolutely no memory. She discovers she lives a reclusive life and is on a mission to piece together her life. She finds a diary written by Celine that reveals the dark secrets of her apartment.
I love a good dual timeline, WWII historical fiction with some mystery and romance thrown in. This one had all my favorite elements spun throughout. It is emotional and not for the faint of heart. It portrays the harsh reality of what it was like living in a Nazi-occupied state and the brutal violence that too many people suffered.
