This is a third or fourth re-read, but I'll admit I forgot most of what occured in this book except Rand's plotline.

I think a lot of people complain that this book is full of side quests. I don't think thats wholly true - this book is setting up pieces for the last battle (especially with the Seanchan and the focus on various armies and where they are, the Saidan plotline). It is true though that this is mostly a set up book.

Despite that this is a book I appreciate for its world building. I love learning more about the academies, the Seanchan and Ebu Dar cultures and how those are interacting, Andoran politics and learning about Far Madding. Also that the Two Rivers has six toed cats and nowhere else does (also apparently most creatures except the Seanchan ones don't have six toes so that's a neat bit of worldbuilding) and that peaches are poisonous. The book is full of fun details.

Of course it helps that on this re-read I know that there are still another 5 books to go to get to the end so, unlike my very first read, I'm not expecting this book to rush and resolve plotlines before we go into the last battle. It's also a breath of fresh air compared to Book 8.
