wow. i was blown away from the first chapter/first PAGE of this book. the style is beautiful and yet so simplistic, and the story is both captivating and leaves you wanting more. i loved that the plot was essentially following the descendants of effia and esi down to "present" day while still exploring the effects of imperialism, colonialism, slavery, & related systems of oppression. the full circle moment at the end literally made me scream. immediately made it onto my list of favorite books of all time
