Great North Road by Peter F. Hamilton

948 pages! This is a LONG book, but it never drags. It is a murder mystery, set both in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and on the alien planet of St. Libra. I'm told by my brother-in-law, who is from Newcastle, that despite being set in 2143, the city is still very recognizable - I wouldn't know, never having been there myself. It is also very much a sci-fi novel, with aliens, futuristic technology and spaceships. The core characters are all very relatable, and you learn their intertwined back stories as the novel progresses. All in all, a very enjoyable read, although I did find all the clones' names a little confusing at times. There were 3 brothers, who all cloned themselves multiple times, and all the clone's names start with the first letter of their "father's" name, so yeah, a little confusing at times, at least to me!
